On Monday, November 4, the middle school basketball girls took on the Cloverport Aces for their first game of the 2019-2020 season. They came out with the win, 14-12. It was a close game, but as a team they played well and came out with the win.

Makayla Reed came in scoring the most points of the game with 8 points, making two 3’s and shooting one jumper. Kylie Anastasiades added 4 points to the team total. Chloe Hale made a total of 2 points, hitting some her free throws.

The game altogether went well, the team worked together and did their best. When asked about the team’s performance, Coach Evans said, “We played great defense. Our offense struggles at times, but we will learn to get better as the season progresses.”

The team’s overall game has some things that could be worked on. Coach Evans adds, “We need to work on running our offensive sets deeper, our help defense, and shot selections.”

Cannelton played well as a team by communicating and helping each other. Coach Evans says, “Our defense played very well. They locked down a lot of girls. We had good spacing on offense. We also had a lot of open jump shots.”

The Bulldogs’ next game is Thursday, November 7, against the Evansville Racers. The game is at their gym, and the junior high boys will play right after.
