Valentine’s Day is on February 14. It has been around for a long time and comes from a mix of old traditions and stories about love. The holiday is named after Saint Valentine, who was a Christian who supposedly married couples in secret when it wasn’t allowed in ancient Rome. It is also connected to an old Roman festival called Lupercalia, which was about love and having children.
Later on, in the Middle Ages, people in Europe started to think of this day as being about romance. Writers like Geoffrey Chaucer helped make it more about love in their poems. As time went on, Valentine’s Day became more about buying things, and now people celebrate it by giving cards, flowers, and chocolate to show they care about someone.
